All of the items in this scene, except for the candle flames (which are just stretched Bryce spheres), were modelled using Anim8or. Anim8or is a very nice piece of freeware. It is basically the work of one person, and at the time of writing it is at version 0.85. It has spline and mesh modelling tools and mesh modifiers (bend, taper etc.), but also has SDS modelling as well, SDS was used for the models in the above scene. Models can be exported in 3DS or OBJ format, so you can use it to create models for just about anything. It is really quite amazing to find all of these features in a program at this price, it's FREE I have only used the modelling tools but Anim8or also has a bones system, an animation module, texturing tools and a renderer. The renderer is the least developed of the modules at the moment, it does have shadows, but no reflections as yet, although the author is working on this. Another amazing fact is that the download is only 612KB. You can also download a PDF manual (970KB) and a tutorial (50KB)for creating the Eggplant shown below
So if you are looking for a very neat little 3D program for free, then go to the Anim8or website and grab yourself a copy. Although this program is only at version 0.85, I found it to be completely stable on XP. (Note - Version 0.95 now available) I was actually using it to work on models while Bryce was rendering in the background, very handy, as Bryce is not exactly the fastest renderer on the planet, but I really love that Deep Texture Editor |
