This is not a model of any particular guitar, it was done mostly from
memory and imagination. This is actually version 4 as it seems that nowadays
my imagination seems to work better that my memory. Once I had it finished
(version 2), or so I thought, I actually visited a couple of guitar sites
on the Web and compared mine with some real guitars. Whoops, back to the
drawing board, or 3D modelling software to fix up the most obvious errors.
The model is far from complete, the neck is incomplete (there is no head
on it) so of course there are no tuning heads either. The strings just
float in space at the far end, isn't virtual reality great.
This brings up a couple of points.

As I always tell my students, have plenty of reference material
available when you are creating 3D models (I obviously don't always
practice what I preach)

You don't always need to model everything, only the parts that the
camera is going to see. Obviously if you are creating an animation
with a moving camera, then the camera will probably see a lot more
that a stationary one. |
The pickups for the guitar were actually modelled using Amapi 3D version
5.5, another magazine CD freebie. I just found it easier to create them
in Amapi. Actually Amapi has some terrific modelling tools, but the rendering
engine is not as good as Cinema 4D (in my opinion)
Anyway I am quite pleased with the result, which was achieved during
the first week or two of using the software.
I told my students about the Cinema 4D gallery the day after I uploaded
it. The students were having a look and two of them who were both viewing
this picture, said at the same time "I though it was a photograph"
Surely the ultimate compliment for a 3D image. Well, it made my day anyway
