Ray Dream Studio (now succeeded by Carrara Studio)

Both pieces of furniture were created using the Freeform Modeller. The bookcase was created from simple rectangles, 4 for the shelves and 2 for the sides. To add a bit of style for the sides, both of the rectangles were ungrouped and the top and bottom of each piece was reshaped slightly.

The sides of the chair were created by drawing an outline for the basic shape and a shape for the cutout. After these had been adjusted with the pointer tool and the convert point tool, they were combined as a compound to achieve the cutout effect.

The back and seat of the chair are just a simple sloped L shape in the freeform modeller. And the cushions are also freeform models, this time using rounded rectangles.

In all cases a simple straight extrusion was used. In the next exercise we will be using the extrusion envelope to create a more complex shape.
