Greetings

Welcome to my little corner of the web, enjoy your visit - Alan

October 12, 2002
Have added a gallery for Ray Dream Studio. This is mainly aimed at the students taking the 3D modelling course at Maroochydore TAFE. The gallery will mainly contain simple exercise examples for the students to recreate.

Have just spent my two week break at the computer, doing some 3d modelling. I spent most of the time getting to grips with Bryce, or more specifically the Deep Texture Editor. This is the most complex texture editor I have ever seen and I spent years avoiding it. However now that I have finally fathomed it out (well about 75% of it), I am rapt. I managed to create a few reasonable images during the tests so I have added a Bryce gallery to the site.

September 23, 2002 - Avoid Broken Links on Your Site

You know all of those offers that you get in your e-mail? Well I actually got one a week or two ago that was genuine.

It was from a company called SEVENtwentyfour Inc. They offer a service that checks all of the external links on your website and reports back any broken ones. They also test your webhost and report on the service and even let you know how you rank with the search engines.

When I first got their e-mail, I almost automatically deleted it, but I happened to notice the words

"One Month Free Trial - NO CREDIT CARD REQUIRED"

They asked me to send an e-mail to let them know if I wanted to take the trial. I did so, and because their offer appeared genuine, so was I.

I told them that I would like to take the free trial, but because mine is a non-profit site, I wouldn't be able to justify signing up. So I was quite surprised when the test actually started and I began getting reports.

They even send an e-mail when your site changes, very useful if you haven't actually changed it yourself.

I have nearly 500 external links and I did have a few that were broken. One actually went down a day after I had checked it manually.

If your site is for making money, you can't afford to have broken links. So why not check out this service at http://www.seventwentyfour.com/

I am not affiliated with this company, you don't even have to let them know that it was me who told you about them. I am just impressed at what is a genuine offer in the flood of scams and cons that you get in your e-mail nowadays.

If mine was a commercial site, then I would be signing up for the service.

I have spent most of the day fixing the page templates, so that the pages appear pretty much the same in both Internet Explorer and Netscape Navigator.

Apologies to Netscape user's, I thought that I had fixed it earlier, well actually I had, but I had only applied the template to a couple of pages.

Have added some new links to the Painter Gallery, they feature artwork created using Painter and some very good tutorials.

Added another two images to the Expression Gallery. I must admit that nowadays, I am spending more time with Expression than any of my other drawing programs. It just seems to suit my drawing style and it is so intuitive to use.

If you've never used Expression, then why not download a 30 trial version of Expression 3 from this download page?

September 19, 2002

Added a couple of new images to the Expression Gallery. Have actually split the gallery, as the growing number of thumbnails was pushing up the download time.

Have added a link the the Cinema 4D web ring to the Cinema 4D gallery page.

September 15, 2002

The number of visitors to the site has topped the 1100 mark, with visitors from over a dozen countries. I discovered the other day, that my site had been added to the links page on a Japanese Expression site, and the number of visitors from both Japan and Hong Kong has jumped dramatically. I haven't yet figured out the link between Japan and Hong Kong, maybe both countries have a large number of expression users, or maybe it is just a coincidence.

Anyway, welcome to all of the new visitors from wherever you are. I hope you enjoy your visit, and if you haven't already done so, please sign my guest book, and thanks to those of you who have already done so.

Maroochydore ??
A few people have asked where the heck is Maroochydore?
It is located on The Sunshine Coast in sunny Queensland, Australia. To find out more have a look at The Sunshine Coast tourist information web page.

Site Revamp
Actually, many of you will have never seen my old site, as it was only intended for students undertaking my multimedia classes at Maroochydore TAFE. However some of my students have persuaded me to make this available more widely. I think that their logic is "Why should we be the only ones to suffer?"

So here it is. I hope you enjoy your visit
